1. "Cultural"
Culture plays a big role in how someone might interpret color and symbols. In different countries different color and symbols mean different things. Take as an example funerals. In the U.S. people commonly wear black for funerals whereas in china they wear white. The black would be a focus on the sombre and death of the person whereas in China the white would represent a sort of innocence and less attachment to the death of the person.
2. "Natural Symbols"
Symbols such as ones for fire or gestures like you would make for eating would be more natural symbols. They are symbols that most people can relate to and can understand.
3. "Color"
Color can mean different things to different cultures. As an example you can take green and what it means in the U.S. For most people here green is reminiscent of money or greed whereas in some Latin countries green alludes to "horny."

Crayon Rubbing
1. "3 Steps of Critique"
The three steps of critique are descriptive, compositional and interpretational analysis.

2. "Analysis/Critique"
This is a blue, purple and red crayon rubbing. Things are mainly in the center and everything looks jumbled. The colors are very feminine and there are actually three female figures. There is lots of texture, lots of lines moving in different directions and the words “in memory” and “art storage.” At first I didn’t think that there was any sort of meaning behind this crayon rubbing but I think subconsciously I put certain things in this image that now form a very symbolic and meaningful image. I think the three female figures could represent three different aspects of me. The different textures and lines could also represent different aspects of myself and how I like so many different things and feel like I throw myself in different directions. The jumble can represent my lack of control and how disorganized I am. The words “in memory” could represent that there is an aspect of me that is gone or leaving. The words “art storage” can allude to all the art I feel I have stored inside of me.

Introduction
1. "Introduction"
My name is Dulce Carolina Martinez. I have lived in Yuma, AZ my whole life with the exception of about 8 months which I lived in Los Angeles, CA. I am majoring in Studio Art because I love art and creativity is what comes most natural to me but I am rather undecided as to what exact artistic field I would like to have a career in.

2. "Sample of My Artwork"
This is a sample of my art. It is rather old and I haven’t created anything that I like or that others like as much as this in quite some time. It is done in pencil.

3. "My Artwork"
I mainly work in pencil though I do love to paint and take photographs. I’m best with pencil (black and white) and I love to draw more abstract, detailed images which include geometry, symmetry and flow lines.

4. "Favorite Art"
I think I like most art. My least favorite would probably be pop art. It’s hard for me to pick just one type of art that is my favorite but if I had to pick I’d say Expressionist pieces are my favorite. I also love the Art Nouveau style and many others which are similar.

5. "Major"
I am majoring in Studio Art and would like to be able to go to an art school but I am undecided as to which one and exactly for what.

6. "Class Goals"
I think my main goal for this class is to open myself up more. I feel very contained and fearful when it comes to drawing and making art now because I am a perfectionist. I’d like to make lots of mistakes and learn from them to be able to learn a better process than what I have now.

7. "Vacation Spot"
I don’t think I have a favorite vacation spot but I definitely have several fantasy ones. I’d say an ideal vacation spot would be near a body of water whether it be lake, river or ocean. I can think of lots of countries that have beautiful landscapes and cityscapes near bodies of water that I’d like to see.

8. "Pet"
I don’t have any pets but I do love animals. I’d like to one day have dogs, cats, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, and anything else that comes my way I guess. I’m not fond of having reptiles, amphibians or insects though.

9. "More About Me"
I am rather shy and quiet sometimes. Obviously if I feel comfortable I lose a bit of that shyness and quietness and get louder but sometimes that takes a good amount of time. I try my best not to step on anyone or get in anyone’s way. I love to laugh (loud). I like to try new things even though I do hesitate a little (or a lot depending on the circumstance) at first. I am introverted so I do cherish my independence and time alone but I also love people so I do like to get to know people.
